Ear Training
The ear training exercises are presented in three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. Within each level,
exercises are designed to develop the skills needed to recognize arpeggios, intervals and scales. Finally,
exercises are provided that combine these elements into melodic sequences.
Basic
These exercises are intended to be used by players who have knowledge of their instruments but have not had previous
experience with exercises designed specifically for developing ear training skills.
Hopefully, you will find the exercises fun and challenging.
- Arpeggios
- In this area, the sounds of the major and minor triads are introduced. A two-measure pattern is played. During the following two measures,
repeat the pattern as best you can.

- Scales
- In these exercises, the sounds of the first five notes of the major and minor scales are introduced.

Intermediate
These exercises are intended to be used by players who have knowledge of their instruments and are ready to
work with ear training exercises of greater complexity than
the basic ear training exercises, either through achieving proficiency with the basic exercises or through
similar skill development.
- Arpeggios
- In this area, the sounds of the major, minor and dominant seventh chords are introduced. A two-measure pattern is played. During the following two measures,
repeat the pattern as best you can.
